Located at the mouth of the White Oak River where it meets the Atlantic Ocean, Swansboro’s history revolves around its proximity to the water. When shipbuilding had declined and the town’s brief success in the lumber industry and naval shops waned during the great depression, Swansboro’s success in the fishing industry was born and thrives to this day.
