2003 Elementary National Duals, Kingsport Tennessee

Below is a picture of Justin Moore and his coaches from the Elementary Nationals in Kingsport, Tennessee where Justin wrestled for North Carolina on Team Tar Heels. Pictured left to right Chuck Excell (Sandcats Wrestling), Joel Denmon (Eastern Randolph), Justin Moore (Buccaneers), Ed Throckmorton (Eastern Randolph) and Adam Barber. Justin's team finished 9th out of 13, and Justin won 3 and lost 6 matches. Justin won matches against Michigan, Virginia Gold, and Team Grundy. He lost matches against Iowa, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Ohio, North Carolina Wolfpack and Virginia Blue. Justin did an excellent job winning 3 matches against the best elementary competition in the country.

In other news, Jeremy Espinoza placed 6th at 105 pounds in the Ohio Tournament of Champions.

AAU Elementary & Middle School State
Mar. 22-23

The Buccaneers ran into some stiff competition.  Jeremy Espinoza (3-1) placed 3rd.  He lost a 0-2 decision to the eventual champion.  Daniel Fisher won a 9-0 decision and lost to close matches.  Brisen Koch won his first match of the year an 11-0 decision.  Great year everyone.  See you at wrestling camp.. 

Southern Nationals, Raleigh NC
Mar. 16

The Buccaneers had 12 wrestlers participate in this tournament.  All of the wrestlers had good performances with almost everyone winning at least 1 match.  This tournament was a good opportunity to wrestle kids from VA, SC, WV, OH and MD.   

Jeremy Espinoza came in 1st place.  Justin Moore and Calvin Barnes came in 2nd place.  Timmy Cowan and McKenzie Cameron came in 3rd place.

Tarboro/Chapel Hill Tournament
Mar. 8

The Buccaneers split the team sending 7 wrestler to Tarboro and 7 wrestlers to Chapel Hill.  

At Tarboro, the Buccaneers won 4 out of 7 weight classes and everyone won a medal.  Tournament champions included Justin Moore (3-0), Cameron Cecil (2-0), Josh Ward (3-0), and Wesley Cain (2-0).  Ramsey Cameron (4-1) won a silver medal.  Brisen Koch and McKenzie Cameron came in 3rd place.

At Chapel Hill, Calvin Barnes won his weight class.  Daniel Fisher and Jeremy Espinoza both came in second place.

Middle School States
Southern Pines, NC * Feb. 15-16

The AAU Middle School State Tournament in Southern Pines, NC. On the left is Daniel Fisher (3rd) and on the right is Jeremy Espinoza (1st). Jeremy Espinoza won in dominating fashion with a pin, 2 technical falls and won the finals by decision 10-6.  Daniel Fisher won by decision 10-9, lost by decision 5-2, won by decision 6-0 and won the consolation finals by pin.  Timmy Cowan (3-2) and Cory Sly (2-2) both had good performances in extremely tough weight classes. 

New Bern Tournament
Feb. 8

The Buccaneers brought 17 wrestlers to the New Bern Tournament and took home 13 medals.  8 Gold Medals, 2 Silver Medals, 3 Bronze Medals.  The following wrestlers won the New Bern Tournament Daniel Fisher, Jeremy Espinoza, Anthony Williams, Calvin Barnes, McKenzie Cameron, Ramsey Cameron, Dustin Soddy and Timmy Cowan.   

Athen's Drive Tournament
Jan. 11

The Buccaneers and AG Cox went to Athen's Drive for a wrestling tournament.  We brought 16 wrestlers and 8 placed.  Jeremy Espinoza and Daniel Fisher placed 1st, Cory Sly and Robbie Hufford placed 2nd, Hayden Bogart, Chris Mitchell, Timothy Cowan, and Cameron Cecil placed 3rd.  We also had several kids do well Dustin Soddy went 3-2.  He had around 20 kids in his bracket.  Justin Moore was 4th, he lost in overtime to Cameron Cecil.  Great job wrestlers.

New Bern Tournament
Dec. 27

The Buccaneers brought 2 wrestlers, and AG Cox (soon to be Buccaneers) brought a team full.  The Buccaneers and AG Cox had 3 champions.  Daniel Fisher, Calvin Barnes, and Cory Sly.  D.H. Conley's J.V. had a good showing at this tournament as well. 

Cary Takedown Tournament
Dec. 14

The Buccaneers wrestled tough going 13-18 for the day with 2 overtime matches and several 2 point decisions.  Justin Moore (5-0, 1st place), Jeremy Espinoza (3-2, 3rd place), Chris Mitchell (1-2, 3rd place), Hayden Bogart (1-4), MacKenzie Cameron (1-1, 2nd place), Dustin Soddy (2-2, 4th place), Brisen Koch (0-2), Josh Ward (0-2, 3rd place), Josh Russ (0-3)

 

Wilson's President Tournament
Portsmouth, VA
